Wagswoofs – A $4 million expansion is underway for a well-known door manufacturing company based in Western New York.
Whiting Door, a family-owned company, has been operating for over six decades since its establishment in 1953. Over the years, the company has experienced significant growth, spreading its presence nationwide. Whiting Door specializes in manufacturing a wide range of door products, including roll-up doors, swing doors, and laminated panel designs.
Empire State Development (ESD) President, CEO & Commissioner Hope Knight praised the company as one of the leading contributors to Western New York’s manufacturing economy. The state recently unveiled the Akron manufacturer’s ambitious multi-million-dollar expansion plans, which are expected to create 25 new jobs.
The ESD wrote that Whiting has been recently tasked with manufacturing lightweight doors for a significant contract. This contract involves the production of up to 150,000 delivery vehicles with zero-emission and low-emission internal combustion engines over the next decade.
The expansion project is expected to be completed by 2025, according to ESD. In exchange for the commitments to create jobs, they are offering up to $500,000 in Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits.
The New York Power Authority Board of Trustees will be reviewing an application for a $595,000 funding award through its Western New York Power Proceeds Fund on Tuesday, according to ESD.
According to Ben Whiting, vice president of Whiting Door Manufacturing, the company is thrilled to finally enter the production phase after a lengthy seven-year period dedicated to design, development, and bidding. Whiting acknowledges the crucial role played by their engineering and production teams in transforming the concept into a tangible reality. While the company explored various options from different locations to support the project, ESD proved to be the key factor in bridging the gap, enabling them to establish production within their own country.
