Residents living near a 67-year-old man are in shock and struggling to make sense of the tragedy that occurred in broad daylight on Wednesday morning. According to reports from the D.C. Police, this senior citizen was brutally murdered, leaving his neighbors in distress.
The residents of Anthony Stewart’s apartment building are struggling to find the right words to describe their shock and disbelief.
As he strolled out of the apartment complex, he would frequently exchange greetings with those passing by on the walkway outside the building, situated on the 100 block of 35th Street Southeast.
At approximately 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday, while he was on his way to 35th Street Northeast, an unknown individual approached him and fired a gunshot.
Early Wednesday morning, tragedy struck when 67-year-old Anthony Stewart was fatally shot on the 100 block of 35th Street Southeast, according to police reports.
According to FOX 5, law enforcement authorities reported that Mr. Stewart was transported by medics to a hospital, but unfortunately, he passed away later.
According to the neighbors, he was known as a friendly and reserved individual.
Ramone Lewis, Mr. Stewart’s neighbor, shared that the man was always in high spirits every day. Lewis has known him for over a decade, during which he witnessed Mr. Stewart’s love for cars and his dedication to work. Mr. Stewart owned several cars, which he would regularly wash and maintain. Despite his busy schedule, Mr. Stewart never complained about anything. It’s difficult to fathom how something like this could happen to such a positive and hardworking individual.
Authorities are currently investigating this case and are actively searching for a motive. To aid in their efforts, a reward of up to $25,000 is being offered to individuals who can provide information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
