An investigation is currently being conducted by the Idaho State Police into a tragic six-vehicle crash that took place on Thursday, October 19, 2023. The incident occurred at the intersection of South Yellowstone Highway and West 49th South in Idaho Falls, around 6:57 a.m. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those affected by this devastating event.
As the intersection approached, a young woman from Basalt was behind the wheel of her 2013 Ford Taurus. Unfortunately, her car was hit by a 2000 Kenworth semi-truck with two trailers, driven by a 27-year-old man from Blackfoot, who was headed westbound.
As the accident unfolded, both of the vehicles veered into the lanes meant for eastbound traffic, colliding with the vehicles that were present in that area.
A man from Idaho Falls, aged 38, was behind the wheel of a 2013 Ford F150 pickup.
In 2012, a young male driver from Shelley took the wheel of a Hyundai Genesis.
In Shelley, a 38-year-old woman was behind the wheel of a 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe.
The driver of the 2017 Ram Pickup was a 62-year-old man from Shelley.
Sadly, the driver of the Taurus was transported to a nearby hospital but, unfortunately, could not survive her injuries.
Every driver in the vehicle was observed to be wearing their seatbelt.
At the moment, the lanes heading east are obstructed.
The Idaho State Police is currently conducting an investigation into the crash.
