Millbrook police officers were called to the 2800 Block of Charmwood Drive on Friday, October 6, 2023, after reports of an unattended juvenile wandering around the area. Despite their efforts to locate the child’s parent or responsible party, they were unable to do so. As a result, the officers took the child into protective custody and brought them to the Millbrook Police Department. Given the child’s age and the situation at hand, the Department of Human Resources was notified and asked to provide assistance in this matter.
After conducting an investigation and reaching out to the public for help in identifying the parents of the juvenile, Millbrook detectives have successfully discovered the identity of the juvenile’s mother. The detectives have contacted the mother, who has agreed to meet with them to discuss the matter further. Meanwhile, the juvenile has been handed over to the Alabama Department of Human Resources until the mother has had a chance to make contact with law enforcement officials.
To begin with, I would like to express my gratitude to our community members and the news media for their support and cooperation in this matter. The most noteworthy aspect of this incident is that an individual noticed the child unsupervised and alerted the authorities. Despite our best efforts, we were unable to track down the child’s parents or any responsible party, and as a result, we brought the child to the police department. Rest assured that the child received ample love and care while we worked to locate his parents. As per the standard procedure, we reached out to the Department of Human Resources, who promptly responded to aid us in this situation.
From what we currently know, it seems that the young child was under the supervision of a teenager while the mother was away at work. It appears that the child was able to figure out how to unlock the door and leave the house without anyone noticing.
After conducting the investigation, it was concluded that the Department of Human Resources would obtain temporary custody of the juvenile while investigators strive to identify and reach out to the parent(s). The authorities will assess the situation and decide whether to press criminal charges once they have interviewed the parent in question. The welfare of the child is of paramount importance, and it is crucial to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future. Fortunately, the child is now safe, and we are deeply grateful to everyone who offered their assistance during this case.

Millbrook Police Department: A Close Look at Law Enforcement in Millbrook
At around 2:20 PM today, the Millbrook Police Department received a report about an unaccompanied male juvenile, who appeared to be around 3 years old, wandering in the 2800 block of Charmwood Drive. Officers immediately responded to the call and located the child. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to locate any responsible adult or parent. The child, who was a young black male, was dressed in dark jogging pants and Crock shoes without a shirt. Additionally, a small puppy was found alongside him and taken into protective custody. The Alabama Department of Human Resources has been informed about the incident.
We are currently seeking help from the public to find the parents or guardian of this young boy. He seems to be in good health and has been accompanied by a puppy who was looking after him until our officers arrived. We urge anyone who recognizes this child to come forward and help us get in touch with his parents or guardian. Despite having him in our custody for over an hour, we have not received any reports of a missing child in our city. We are deeply concerned and would appreciate any assistance in locating his parents or guardian.
