Wagswoofs – A young woman is now facing murder charges following a tragic incident at an apartment complex in Beech Grove, Indiana. The dispute escalated into a fatal shooting, leading to the arrest of 22-year-old D’Yauni Wilkins-Jones. She is charged with one count of murder and two misdemeanor battery counts in connection with the incident that took place on April 25th.
The Beech Grove Police Department received a call about gunshots at an apartment complex in the evening, around 9:14 p.m. Eyewitnesses present at the scene reported hearing multiple gunshots.
When police arrived, they saw 27-year-old DeMarcus French lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest. French was taken to a nearby hospital right away, but sadly, he was declared dead a few hours later.
Court papers say that this deadly encounter started because the suspect, D’Yauni Wilkins-Jones, had been bothering the victim’s sister in the past. Wilkins-Jones and the victim’s sister both lived in the apartment building. The argument got worse when they called each other names, with the sister calling Wilkins-Jones’ present girlfriend “a leech.”
The argument quickly went physical, and punches were thrown back and forth between the two sides. DeMarcus French, who was just watching, stepped in to try to stop the fight. Witnesses said he tried to get Wilkins-Jones out of the fight, which showed how brave and determined he was to calm things down.
As things got worse, Wilkins-Jones allegedly pulled out a gun and gave a scary warning: “If anyone moves, I’m going to shoot and kill them.” Sad to say, she then shot straight at DeMarcus French, hitting him several times before he fell to the ground.
Witnesses described the incident, stating that Wilkins-Jones callously ignored the injured victim and showed no remorse, saying, “I don’t give a f—, he should’ve never jumped in.”
According to court documents from Marion County, legal proceedings await D’Yauni Wilkins-Jones. A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for February 13, 2024, with a jury trial to follow on February 20, 2024.
