Wagswoofs – In Beech Grove, Indiana, a devastating event unfolded earlier this year, leading to a tragic shooting and the subsequent murder charges against a young woman. This incident, which occurred on April 25, 2023, left the entire community in a state of shock and prompted concerns about the repercussions of escalating conflicts.
D’Yauni Wilkins-Jones, a 22-year-old resident of Beech Grove, has been charged with one count of murder and two misdemeanor battery counts in relation to the incident. Court documents and eyewitness accounts provide the following details of what took place:
The Tragic Evening:
At approximately 9:14 p.m. that April night, a distress call reached the Beech Grove Police Department from an apartment complex. Residents reported hearing a sequence of gunshots, prompting an immediate response from law enforcement.
The Victim’s Story:
Upon their arrival at the location, officers discovered DeMarcus French, aged 27, lying on the ground, a gunshot wound marking his chest. Rushed to a nearby hospital, French tragically succumbed to his injuries within a few hours.
According to court records, tensions had been brewing among apartment complex residents for some time. Specifically, there were ongoing disputes involving Wilkins-Jones, the accused, and the victim’s sister. A conversation between the victim’s sister and a neighbor, referring to Wilkins-Jones’ current girlfriend as “a leech,” ignited an argument that quickly turned physical.
The Fatal Turn of Events:
As the altercation escalated, Wilkins-Jones allegedly seized a firearm and chillingly declared, “if anybody moves, I’m gonna shoot.” Regrettably, she followed through on her threat, firing multiple shots at DeMarcus French. Witnesses recounted the harrowing moment when French collapsed to the ground, his life abruptly cut short.
Following the shooting, while French lay injured, the couple callously walked past him. Wilkins-Jones heartlessly remarked, “I don’t give a f — , he should’ve never jumped in.”
