Officials reported on Thursday that a housing unit at Fort Stewart, Georgia, which belonged to a family of four, was discovered with the entire family deceased on Wednesday.
On X, Fort Stewart made an announcement stating that a female Soldier, her male spouse, and their two children have unfortunately passed away. As of now, their identities will not be disclosed out of respect for their family’s privacy and until their next of kin has been notified.
At around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, the Fort Stewart military police visited the home of the soldier’s family to conduct a welfare check. This was after the unit requested the check. Upon arriving, they discovered that the entire family was unresponsive. Despite their best efforts, the family was pronounced dead at 5:30 p.m.
According to law enforcement officials, the incident at the base located around 40 miles southwest of Savannah was isolated, and there is no longer any threat remaining.
The Criminal Investigation Division of the Army Department is currently conducting an investigation and has stated that no further information can be disclosed at this time.
During an overnight training exercise in 2019, a tragic incident took place at Fort Stewart where three soldiers lost their lives after their tank overturned. Similarly, last year, a soldier lost his life in a helicopter incident at the post’s airfield.
