Late Tuesday night, a tragic accident occurred which resulted in two drivers being hospitalized and one losing their life.
At 11:10 pm, John D. Searle, a 64-year-old resident of Columbia, was driving his 2014 Mazda CX5 eastbound on Stadium Boulevard, near West Boulevard. Unfortunately, a 2011 GMC Sierra traveling in the opposite direction veered into his lane, resulting in a tragic head-on collision. The Columbia Police Department’s report didn’t mention the name of the GMC’s driver, who was listed in critical condition.
First responders had to extricate both Searle and the GMC driver after a fatal accident. Searle unfortunately passed away after being transported to the hospital and their next of kin have been notified. It was reported that Searle was wearing a seatbelt, while the driver of the GMC was not.
The authorities in Columbia are still carrying out an investigation into the accident.
