According to a statement from SCDC, the prisoner has been relocated to another facility. The staff member received medical attention at a nearby hospital, as stated in the release.
According to online prison records, Sherard was convicted of false imprisonment and first-degree assault and battery in Greenwood County and is currently serving a 10-year sentence. He was projected to be eligible for parole on December 6th. In addition, he is listed on the South Carolina Sex Offender Registry due to a conviction of criminal sexual conduct when he was 17 years old.
Located in McCormick, the McCormick Correctional Institution is a state prison that accommodates up to 1,128 adult male inmates and is classified as a maximum-security facility.
