KCPD Investigating Fatal Shooting, Bringing City’s Homicide Count To 180 In 2023

Wagswoofs – The Kansas City, Missouri Police Department is currently investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Friday night.

The shooting occurred around 7:30 p.m. in the old Historic Northeast neighborhood, specifically in the vicinity of Lyon Avenue and Hardesty Avenue.

Kansas City has reached a grim milestone with its 180th homicide of 2023, surpassing the previous record set in 2020 for the deadliest year in the city’s history.

KCPD Sgt. Jake Becchina expressed his concern about the increasing number of incidents this year, stating that even one incident is too many and having 180 incidents is simply absurd.

Detectives are actively investigating the scene, diligently searching for crucial evidence and interviewing potential witnesses. Their objective is to uncover any information that may shed light on the circumstances that led to the unfortunate shooting incident.
