After a few hours, a police standoff came to a close on Tuesday morning as authorities successfully apprehended a man who allegedly assaulted a woman in her residence.
According to a news release by Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department, officers responded to a domestic violence assault in the 3600 block of East 46th Terrace at around 4 a.m.
According to Becchina, a woman reported to the police that a man had assaulted her in her residence. Upon investigation, the authorities identified the said man, who was found to have an outstanding felony warrant. Additionally, there were suspicions that he might have been carrying a weapon.
The officers were able to assist a teenage boy, who was also present in the house, to safely exit the premises. However, the man inside the residence declined to leave despite their efforts.
The authorities decided to exercise caution and maintain a safe distance from the home, as there was a possibility that the suspect was armed. The police officers surrounded the premises to prevent any chances of escape. The situation was further handled by deploying tactical officers and peace negotiators to the site.
At approximately 9 a.m., the male suspect peacefully left the premises and was promptly apprehended by authorities.
The inquiry regarding the domestic assault is currently in progress.
