NY Charges Former Bucks County Correctional Officer With Murder

Wagswoofs – A former correctional officer from Bucks County Jail is facing murder charges in New York.

Aaron Mayers, a 25-year-old resident of Doylestown, has been indicted on several charges, including second-degree murder and gang assault in the first degree. He is joined by co-defendant Zahir Williams, who is 24 years old.

Melinda Katz, the district attorney for Queens County, says that an “out-numbered victim was sucker-punched, viciously beaten unconscious, and then mercilessly run over.”

The DCAO says that around 3:30 a.m. on October 20, Francisco Ortega, 50, was fighting with Williams outside the driver’s side of his car with the door open when someone else in the group punched Ortega in the back of the head.

Investigators say that Mayers, Williams, and two other people punched and kicked Ortega over and over again after he fell.

People say Williams took Ortega’s car, drove it around the block, and then ran over Ortega while he was lying on the ground, dazed. The doctor who did the autopsy says Ortega was still alive when Williams hit him.

Mayers joined the Bucks County Jail staff in July 2022.

According to a county spokesperson, Mayers was suspended without pay upon discovery of the investigation. His termination took place on Monday, December 11th.
