On Wednesday, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg made an announcement that an NYPD officer has been indicted for repeatedly punching a victim in 2022. The incident took place while the officer was responding to a call about an emotionally disturbed child in December of last year.
A former sergeant in Harlem’s 32nd precinct, Christian Zapata, aged 36, has been charged with a single count of third-degree assault in connection with the incident.
As per the court records dated December 7, 2022, Zapata, along with other NYPD members, attended a distress call regarding a child suffering from emotional turmoil in an apartment.
According to reports, the victim, who is 43 years old, had repeatedly requested the officers to wear facemasks while interacting with them. In fact, the victim had even dialed 911 to seek assistance from the supervisor.
According to officials, the officers declined to comply with the request.
