During a Sunday morning news conference, Chief Jeffrey Maddrey of the New York City Police Department revealed that the police had received a distressing 911 call at around 5 a.m. The caller, a young female, reported that her cousin was in the process of murdering members of their family.
According to Maddrey, the officers arrived at a residential block in Queens and parked in a driveway. As they got out of the car, they noticed someone walking out with luggage.
Courtney Gordon, 38, the suspect, was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead, according to the police.
Maddrey praised the officers, one with 28 years of experience and the other with 16 years of experience.
“They could have simply allowed this individual to pass by with his luggage. However, they chose to intervene, asking him a few questions and gathering information before approaching him,” he explained. “Regrettably, they encountered the perpetrator in this particular incident, who immediately confronted them.”
The police stated that the officers were transported to a hospital due to their non-life-threatening injuries and are anticipated to make a full recovery.
