Wagswoofs – The military reported on Sunday that a “mishap” occurred during a training exercise, causing a helicopter carrying five American service members to crash into the eastern Mediterranean Sea late on Friday. Regrettably, all five service members lost their lives in the tragic incident.
According to two officials, as reported by The New York Times and Washington Post, the soldiers involved in the recent tragedy were Army special operations personnel. Despite search and rescue efforts that continued until Saturday, the officials had to call off the operation.
According to officials, the helicopter that crashed was an MH-60.
According to an initial statement by U.S. European Command released on Saturday, the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. However, the statement also mentioned that there is currently no evidence of any hostile activity involved.
According to a statement from European Command on Sunday, the aircraft was carrying out a standard air refueling mission when an unfortunate incident took place. Unfortunately, no additional information was given regarding the specifics of what went wrong.
According to a third U.S. official, a helicopter crashed near Cyprus. The crew was part of the special operations forces who were recently deployed there to assist in the evacuation of American citizens from the region amidst the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
At present, the identities of the deceased individuals have not been disclosed as authorities are still in the process of notifying their family members.

Initially, there was a conflict between European Command officials and Austin’s statement regarding the timing of the incident. The question was whether it occurred late Friday or early Saturday. However, the Pentagon cleared the air on Sunday afternoon, confirming that the incident took place late Friday.
In a public statement, President Joe Biden expressed his sorrow over the loss of military personnel, acknowledging their daily sacrifices to keep the American people safe. He remarked that these individuals willingly put their lives on the line and exhibit bravery and selflessness that epitomize the best of our nation.
As Veterans Day weekend began, Biden acknowledged the crash and emphasized the importance of fulfilling our duty to those who selflessly serve our country, along with their loved ones and those who care for them. “We must remember the sacred obligation we have to our veterans and their families,” he stated.
In a heartfelt message, the President stated that he and Jill are keeping the families and friends who have lost a dear one in their thoughts and prayers. He acknowledged that losing someone you love is like losing a part of yourself, and the entire nation stands in solidarity with those who are grieving.
