According to the Albuquerque Police Department, a crash was reported in the vicinity of Central Avenue and Eubank Boulevard, prompting officers to respond to the scene.
After an investigation, it was found that a Toyota FJ was traveling in a westerly direction on Central before it collided with a center median curb and veered into the lanes designated for eastbound traffic. At the time, a Nissan and Jeep were positioned in an eastbound Central turn bay. Unfortunately, both of these vehicles were struck by the FJ, which caused it to roll over.
The story continues below:
Sadly, the driver of the FJ was thrown from the vehicle upon impact, striking one of the other cars before ultimately hitting the ground. Despite attempts to save them, the driver passed away while en route to the hospital.
Fortunately, none of the individuals in the Nissan required hospitalization. However, one passenger in the Jeep was taken to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
According to authorities, speed is not believed to have played a role in the accident. Additionally, both the drivers of the Jeep and Nissan were found to be unimpaired. However, it is unclear whether the driver of the FJ was under the influence at the time of the incident.
The investigation will persist as officials work to gather more information and uncover any possible leads.
