According to its website, Alabama State University was established in 1867 by nine men who were formerly enslaved, known as the Marion Nine. It is located in the birthplace of the modern civil rights movement, and is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the United States founded specifically for Black Americans.
ASU is part of the HBCU community that is increasingly known for its diverse student body. The university is proud to have students from over 41 states and 21 different countries. Their student-faculty ratio of 20 to 1 ensures that every student receives individual attention and mentorship. ASU believes that this personalized approach provides students with the support and knowledge they need to turn their dreams into reality.
