Salon Owner In Indy Shares Message After Charges Dropped Against Man Caught Exposing Himself

Wagswoofs – A man who was caught on camera exposing himself outside a busy salon in Indianapolis will no longer be facing charges.

Back in June, FOX59/CBS4 initially reported on this incident. During that time, the owner of Indie Mane Salon had a terrifying encounter when a man exposed himself right outside her salon window while she was attending to a client. This incident was already distressing, but it has become even more frustrating as the charges have now been dismissed.

Belinda Benham, the owner of Indie Mane Salon, expressed her shock at witnessing such an unexpected incident while she was in the middle of styling someone’s hair at 5 p.m.

According to Benham, the incident that took place on the salon patio on Virginia at 5 p.m. was extremely disturbing. He emphasized that it was highly unusual for a man to engage in such behavior in a public space, especially during rush hour on a busy street.

After filing a police report, she took to social media to share her experience. To her surprise, she received numerous messages from other women who claimed to have been victims of the same man’s actions.

In her interview, Benham expressed her frustration about the dismissal of the case nearly six months after the incident.

The Marion County Prosecutor has mentioned that the man participated in a pretrial diversion program, which resulted in the charges being dropped.

Attorney John Tompkins, who is not associated with the case, explains that the process bears a striking resemblance to probation, with the exception that there is no need for a conviction to be recorded on one’s record. Moreover, the case ultimately gets dismissed, ensuring a favorable outcome for the individual involved.

According to Tompkins, individuals participating in pretrial diversions often have to pay a fee.

Benham expressed her ongoing disappointment, particularly in light of other women who have also encountered the same man. She strongly advises other women to never feel ashamed and to report such incidents without hesitation.

“I truly pray that we never have to experience something like this again,” she expressed with a hint of worry in her voice. “However, I want to emphasize the importance of taking immediate action if such an incident occurs. It is crucial to report the incident to the police and, if possible, gather any visual evidence such as photographs or videos of the trucks or any relevant details.”

Benham took the initiative to enhance the surveillance system in her shop by installing additional cameras. In order to promote safety and security, she advises other businesses to consider installing outdoor-facing cameras if they haven’t done so already.
