Wagswoofs – A 13-year-old boy has been injured in a shooting incident on the border between Newark and East Orange.
Around 10:40 a.m. on Thursday, a lockdown was initiated at Bragaw Avenue School on Leslie Street due to the sound of gunshots.
At around 11 a.m., the police were notified about a separate incident that was connected to the earlier ShotSpotter activation. Upon their arrival at the scene, they discovered shell casings, but there were no immediate signs of any victims. Another incident had been reported at 79 Grand Street.
Police found a 13-year-old boy with gunshot wounds in his chest there. He was rushed to University Hospital, but it’s still not clear what’s wrong with him.
Investigators believe that the two incidents are linked and have successfully identified the vehicle in which the injured boy arrived. They strongly suspect that he was involved in the earlier shooting on Leslie Street. However, no further information has been disclosed as the investigation is still ongoing.
