An investigation is currently underway regarding the death of a 31-year-old prisoner at the Bingham County Jail in Blackfoot that occurred on Saturday.
According to a news release from the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, Camille Elizabeth Lankford, a resident of Shelley, was discovered unresponsive in her cell at the Bingham County Jail during a routine safety check on Saturday at approximately 4:15 p.m.
According to a news release, the staff at the jail immediately sprang into action to perform lifesaving measures as soon as they realized the female inmate was in distress. Emergency medical personnel were contacted promptly, and EMS arrived at the jail to take over the life-saving measures. However, despite their best efforts, they were unable to revive the inmate, and she tragically passed away.
The Bingham County Coroner’s Office was notified by emergency medical personnel after they arrived at the jail and discovered the death. This notification occurred approximately 30 minutes after their arrival.
The Tri-County Sheriffs Association took charge of the investigation into Lankford’s death, with the Bonneville and Power county sheriff’s offices leading the way in the investigation.
Furthermore, a distinct investigation into Lankford’s demise will be carried out by the Blackfoot/Bingham County Joint Detective Division.
Since October 12, Lankford had been detained due to two warrants that were related to her failure to appear twice in court for charges of misdemeanor driving without privileges and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, she was facing a felony charge for possession of a controlled substance.
According to a recent news release from the Bingham County Sheriff’s Office, they want to extend their deepest sympathies to the victim’s family, friends, and acquaintances. The public should know that the Bingham County Jail takes the safety and security of all inmates seriously and it is their top priority.
