Police: 15-year-old Shot Dead Outside Canarsie’s Bay View Houses

Wagswoofs – According to authorities, a shooting in Canarsie claimed the life of a teenage boy late at night.

When the NYPD arrived at 9 p.m., they found 15-year-old Javel Lawton shot in the chest outside the Bay View Houses on 102nd Street. After being taken to the hospital, they said he was dead.

According to family friends, the teenager was raised in the Bay View Houses neighborhood and later relocated a few miles away. It has been reported that Lawton attended the Canarsie Educational Campus as a student, and his classmates are now being provided with support.

“It’s absolutely heartbreaking. And he was so young, from what I’ve been told. It’s just not fair for something like this to happen to a child… Please pass on my deepest sympathies to the family,” expressed B.J. Howard and Brian Jimenez, two students from Canarsie Educational Campus.

The shooting occurred in close proximity to P.S. 272. The motive behind the shooting and the relationship between the victim and the shooter remain unclear. The perpetrator is currently evading capture.

The second homicide victim in New York City in 2024 has been reported.
